Why not join us? ![]() AFRO-CUBAN JAZZ WORKSHOP Afro-Cuban music is some of the richest and most influential in the world – a beautiful and energetic mix of cultures. Elements of jazz entered the mix to produce one of the greatest fusions of styles the world has known. Today’s jazz players are expected to be conversant in the genre. FACULTY includes international musicians whose music is fueled by the fire of Afro-Cuban rhythms. They are eager to share their skill and knowledge with you. Meet Cuban-Venezuelan pianist Cesar Orozco, Venezuelan drummer Pablo Bencid, Argentine guitarist Dani Cortaza and Puerto Rican percussionist Gary Sosias. Brazilian bassist Leonardo Lucini, American trumpeter Alex Norris and Canadian saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk are returning faculty members. They’ll guide you through important styles and composers of the genre – tunes that continue to ignite audiences around the globe, from the 1940s to contemporary titles. You’ll play tunes such as Dizzy Gillespie’s “Manteca,” and Mongo Santamaria’s “Afro Blue” and works by Mario Bauza, Chucho Valdez and Paquito D’Rivera.
