U.S. Army Blues Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
 
Hispanic Heritage Month Concerts Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from 15 September – 15 October to celebrate the contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. September 15th was chosen as the starting point for Hispanic Heritage Month because it is the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Music plays an integral role in Hispanic culture and Latin music has heavily influenced American Jazz. Join The U.S. Army Blues as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with performances featuring this iconic style. Sunday, September 18 at 3:00 pm Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month–This performance will feature guest artist Ignacio Berroa, drummer for Dizzy Gillespie. Pre-Concert Presentation: Beginning at 2:15, please attend the screening of Ignacio Berroa’s “Afro-Cuban Jazz and beyond”- a video teaching presentation, overview of development of Afro-Cuban music and its influence in jazz.” Note: Fort Myer is a secure military installation. Government-Issued photo ID is required for access for individuals over 18 years of age. Please allow at least 30 minutes of additional time to pass through security. Juan Quiñones of the West Point Band on trumpet, vocals, and congas.
